Recovering From Overwhelm and Burnout
Overwhelm and Burnout: Rehabilitation
Set yourself clear boundaries: Spend only short periods of time engaged in higher-pressure tasks.
Take breaks: Breaks help you to endure; you will often achieve more over time by taking meaningful breaks.
Reinforce purpose: Know why you are doing whatever you do whenever you do it.
Beware of pacing yourself too carefully: You may end up scaring yourself ibto thinking that you have much more limited personal resource than you actually have. You don't know how strong you are until you use your strength.
Don't over-compensate in your time-off, you need it for full recovery: Limit alcohol, sugar, junk-food, drugs, parties, etc. as these all come with damaging side-effects.
Chunk it down: Break big tasks down into smaller chunks.
Focus: Pur your focus into what you are doing right now rather than other duties and tasks.
Care for yourself: try not to take on other people's tasks (unless that is your task as a manager of course).
Face reality: Don't demand that you do the impossible.
Share: In team situations make sure that you are supported as well as supporting the team. Talk through problems and identify ways to cope that will work for the whole team.
